Adjustable Leather Half-check dog collars

Description Adjustable leather half-check dog collars are hand made in 4mm thick British bridle leathers and fitted with a solid brass or nickel-plated brass (silver) circle chain and a solid cast roller buckle. These collars can be used on all dogs for training and everyday use where a bit of extra control is needed. They’re also good for dogs who are prone to slipping out of their collars! The narrow widths are perfect for the show ring and for everyday use on smaller dogs. Please note, these collars should ideally be used under supervision and not left on the dog when off the lead – they can fall off over the head or get caught and cause an injury. Widths and chains: Half-check collars are only handmade to order and available in choice of sizes, thicknesses, colours and chain weights.  They are available in opening and non-opening buckle versions. The chains are made in solid brass or if you prefer a silver finish, choose the nickel-plated brass option. 12mm and 16mm width collars are fitted with a lightweight chain 20mm width collars are fitted with a mediumweight chain 25mm and 32mm width collars are fitted with a heavyweight chain Sizing: The sizes given are for the length of the leather, not including the chain – this adds about another 5″ (12.5cm) with the light and medium weight chains and 5.5″ (14cm) with the heavy weight chain. Take care when ordering as the non-opening version, although adjustable, has to be fitted by passing over your dog’s head, so you will then need to check that the total length of the leather chain will fit comfortably over your dog’s head and ears. For both versions, you will usually need the length of the leather to measure a good 2″ (5cm) or 3″ (7.5cm) less than the dog’s neck measurement (narrowest part at top of neck) for a good effective fit, but you could use a length of string or cord to try this out before you order. Please note, this guidance is for normal use with a lead attached so if you intend leaving the collar on all of the time (not advisable!), you may need a smaller size. Some breeds with large heads need to have the opening buckle style to achieve the correct fit, so the collar can be fitted by opening the buckle fastening and fitting around the dog’s neck rather than passing the collar over the head. Choose the width & size to suit the size and type of dog, for example, if your dog’s neck measures 12″ (30cm), you probably need to order an 8″ -12″ size in one of the narrower widths with a lightweight chain. Please care for your leather collar by using a good Leathercare product. The chain and buckle can be carefully cleaned with a brass/metal cleaner.
