Padded Leather Half-Check Sighthound collars

Description Leather half-check sighthound collars are handmade and completely handstitched, with a solid brass or nickel-plated brass (silver) circle chain and are ideal for sight-hounds or any dog with a long slender neck. They have a soft padded leather lining in a choice of colours for added comfort,. This is a good control collar when used on the lead, while the wider leather section supports the neck and prevents your hound giving you the slip! These collars are often also called ‘martingales’ – relating back to the equestrian control equipment. They are available in a range of colours, but made to order only so delivery time may be a little longer. Sizing: These collars are available in 3 widths: – 32mm with a lightweight chain, 45mm with a mediumweight chain and 62mm with a heavyweight chain. To ensure a good fit and adequate control, measure the dog’s neck circumference where the collar will sit – usually the top of the neck, behind the ears at it’s narrowest part, then subtract 1″ (2.5cm) to allow for the padded lining, and this will give the length of the leather that you need to order. The chain adds 5″ (12.5cm) to this length with light and medium chains, 5.5″ (14cm) with the heavy chain, so for a 10″ (25cm) Padded collar, the leather section measures 10″ (25cm), the chain then adds 5″ (12.5cm) or 5.5″ (14cm), so the maximum open circumference allowing for the padded lining will be approx 14″ (35.5cm) / 14.5″ (37cm)  – make sure this open measurement will fit over your dog’s head & ears comfortably! As with all half-check and slip collars, it is not advised to leave these collars on your dog when it’s unsupervised as they can lead to accidents or simply fall off and get lost or chewed! Please take care of your collar from new with a good Leathercare product – it will supple up the leather and keep it in great condition for years of use.
